A decentralized do-ocrazy
Back to About usWhats new 2026?
We have been around 100 members most years and it has sometimes been a challenge to hold the camp together. Last year we were 45. The camp was warm and united. It was awesome! Maybe a little too few to make everything run smoothly. The sweet spot seems to be around 50-60 people: enough hands to build/run things, while keeping intimacy. That’s what we aim for in 2026; 50-60 members.
The starting group has made a budget for 2026 and the so called “camp fee” is 6000 SEK (plus 1000 SEK deposit) to make the wheels go around.
We’ve always welcomed new members. In most years, only 15-25% have been part of Nordic Paradise/Camp before, while more than half were completely new to Burning Man. Some years, our camp has included people from over 20 countries, most of whom meet for the very first time on the Playa. It has been a challenge to integrate so many new members. We are aiming for a higher proportion of retuning members 2026, optimally around 50% returning Nordic Paradise members. This will reduce the workload before the burn, make integration easier and take us closer to our ultimate goal: to create a safe space where as many as possible can have as much fun as possible.
The same procedure as last year – it was a success. We don’t have to reinvent the wheel. We know how to do things in the desert now and can copy the working solutions from previous years (kitchen recipes, shade, water, electricity, showers, bar, DJ, chill space, massage, parties). A few tweaks and some new, but less prep, less confusion, fewer meetings, and more focus on building a strong and awesome group.
More on what we do – Theme and Concept
The overarching concept of the camp is to create “A Nordic Paradise”. We have divided our camp theme and the concept “Nordic Paradise” into different sub-concepts, ideas and overall visions:
A Northern Wonderland. An enclosed camp tent and playful space with reindeers, elks, birches and Vikings. All lit up by a Northern Light – an art project where we mimic the Aurora Borealis by installing lights in the ceiling of the public space.
A bar serving drinks and fika. We offer a classical “fika”, a nordic concept involving playful conversations over coffee and something sweet like a cinnamon bun. The daytime bar also serves alcoholic drinks flavoured with lingon- and elderberry.
A daytime Party. We host a Qurious Viking Midsummer Party. Inspired by the Norse mythology, adding some playful and modern flavour. We think that being queer means to be open-minded, flexible and fluid, but most importantly just being exactly as colourful as you would like to be. The party revolves around our crazy Midsummer with offerings and happenings related to the traditional Nordic holiday.
Workshops and music. Vibrant music will be played whenever the camp is open allowing you to have an ecstatic dance, tranquil chill or float away in deep meditation.Several workshops focusing on the wellbeing of your soul, mind and body will be held throughout the week.
Let’s co-create a confident, conscious, chill, and joyful Nordic Paradise 2026!
This year’s Burning Man is 30/8-6/8.
