Burning Man started in 1986 when Larry Harvey and some of his friends gathered at Baker Beach in San Francisco. A wooden burning figure was part of the celebration from the beginning. In 1990 the authorities in San Francisco had seen enough and Burning Man was moved from the beach to a rather different environment, the middle of a dusty desert named Black Rock Desert in Nevada. What started off as a personal celebration among friends has turned into an annual gathering of some 75 000 people.
Progress comes from struggle, shared with others, towards some common goal, it doesn’t come from love per se (Larry Harvey).
Nordic Paradise was probably first seen at BRC in 2014 as “Nordic Space Camp”. The camp was small and was built by a group of people from the Nordic countries. Over the years the camp has grown and in 2018 the camp had over 100 members from all over the world. In 2019 it was part of a village; Börningland, but became a theme camp on its own again in 2022. The camp theme has been different from year to year, but the spirit is still the same.
The camp changed name from “Nordic Camp” to “Nordic Paradise” 2023. The word paradise better reflects the atmosphere we try to create.
