The first step in setting up the camp for next year’s Burning Man is to form a starting group. It should consist of at least 5 members and will be responsible for setting up the camp. It is natural that a group of dedicated members from previous burn from this group. In the rare case no group is formed, the Nordic Camp NPO board shall initiate the process via an open invitation on relevant social media.
The following considerations should be made when selecting members to the application committee (that assigns leads):
The allocation of memberships will roughly follow this timeline:
The different memberships are described in “Nordic Camp Membership and Policies”. In the first step, applicants’ skills, motivation and experience are reviewed. All applicants that fulfil the requirements for a specific lead role/membership are assessed and interviews are performed as needed.
For lead roles (January):
For co-lead roles (February):
For memberships (March):
The camp aims to have at least 30 virgins and at least 30 veterans and will base selection on this criteria first. The membership team makes the selection together with respective lead. All applicants that fulfil the requirements and are eligible are sorted according to the following criteria:
Nordic Camp is a returning camp and we will get so-called “Directed Group Sale” tickets. Exactly how many is decided by “Placement” at Burning Man each year. Previous years Nordic Camp has been allocated around 20-25 DGS. Each DGS is valid for two persons, i.e. one DGS is two tickets to Burning Man.
DGS should be allocated to leads and ‘administrative membership’ holders. The +1 ticket should be kept as “camp tickets” until after the main sale. Distribution of +1 tickets should be made after the main sale to those that still lack a ticket according to the policy below.
DSG tickets are for the camp. The purpose is to make sure each established camp gets enough tickets to maintain its core functions. Hence, the +1 ticket is not a gift to the lead. It is the Membership lead that allocated the +1 ticket. All recipients of a +1 ticket should be informed that the ticket is coupled to membership in Nordic Camp. If a member with a DGS-ticket decides to join another camp or not going to Burning Man, the ticket must be forwarded to a member in Nordic Camp camp (Membership lead decides what member).
The camp will admit members to reach the minimum required members to run the camp. This figure is stated in the Statement of Intent to Burning Man. Nordic Paradise has 75 as its minimum required members 2023
DGS are valid for two persons. Leads get one DGS each and if there are more, administrative members or selected co-leads get allocation.
The +1 will be allocated after the main sale where administrative members are allocated first and co-leads second. If there are tickets left they are allocated to the first admitted member that still lacks a ticket.
Some of the 75 members will most likely not get a ticket allocated at this stage (with 20 DGS 40 members get a ticket + those lucky in the main sale). The camp will ask for additional tickets and although there is no guarantee, we should be able to get tickets to all 75. We are however not going to struggle to get 90 tickets to fill the camp, instead the remaining 15 memberships will require the applicant to have a ticket to Burning Man. If the camp get’s hold of more than 75 tickets and still have spots available both membership and ticket can be offered.
